In the lead up to International Women’s Day, join us for a special conversation as we spotlight the remarkable work of women who are using legal strategies to confront climate harm and protect communities. This webinar is an opportunity to hear about why climate is a gender issue, and to recognise the scale of women-led climate action in Australia. We will also discuss how law and the legal system affects progress on climate action.
Guest speakers:
Professor Beth Goldblatt, Faculty of Law, UTS
Dr Kate Wylie, Executive Director, Doctors for the Environment
Ariane Wilkinson, Senior Manager, Climate and Energy Policy, WWF-Australia
Professor Beth Goldblatt will share observations from her recent research on Australian women climate defenders. Beth interviewed women from all over Australia involved in legal fights to protect Country and reduce emissions.
Dr Kate Wylie will share her experience leading a climate advocacy organisation in their legal fight against Woodside.
Ariane Wilkinson will share reflections on leading a climate litigation program, and her most recent role in direct advocacy for strong climate laws.
Lawyers for Climate Justice Australia co-director Monica Taylor will facilitate the discussion with these two fantastic speakers.
